Founded by Kyabje Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok (Serta Larung Five Science Buddhist Academy in 1980, with less than 12 students).
The academy is a non-sectarian study center with around 10,000 monks, nuns and lay people.
The abbot Khenpo Tsulrim Lodrö, it’s abbot, is very known worldwide, as he travels and is interviewed.
Jigme Phuntsok built it just to set himself away from the tensions from the Cultural Revolution.
