Learning Goals
- Refresh: Animals (using Anki flashcards)
- Refresh: Counting (during Magic English)
- Feelings / Emotions
Material
- Laptop and projector or screen
- Balloon with 8 numbers
- Memo game cards with emotion names (16 cards total)
1. Refresh: Learnt Words (20 min)
Using Anki have images of all the vocabulary that has been added to the deck, e.g. ^f40775, have students come to the computer and type them in (maybe 4) and get point. Others must write to their notebook too.
2. Refresh: Lion King Live Action (20 min)
Play I Just Can’t Wait to be King (YouTube link) of the live action.
After playing, skip around and ask some students what is the animal, and practice counting “How many birds are there?”, “There are 5 birds.”.
3. Feelings (40 min)
Explain (5min)
(1) angry, (2) bored, (3) happy, (4) nervous, (5) relaxed, (6) sad, (7) sick, (8) tired.
Show the images used to illustrate those feelings:

Acting
Make gestures or mimicking to act those emotions.
Activity: Emotions Balloon (20min)
Balloon-select the participants. Then select another student to ask the question “How do you feel?” and the balloon-selected person replies:
- I feel tired (5), and if it acts it then gets 1 point.
Activity: Emotions Board Memo (20min)
Memo game on the whiteboard covering the emojis and the emotion names.
Setup:
- On the whiteboard
- Draw those emotions, and also their names.
- Write “How are you?” or “How do you feel?”
- Write “Are you ___?” or “Do you feel __?”
- Cover all images and words with numbered papers (1–16, shuffled).
How to Play:
- Students call out 2 numbers (e.g., “3 and 12”), in English!
- Uncover both
- As they are uncovered read the feeling together with the students.
- if it’s a match, they earn 1 point.
- if it’s not a match they toss the balloon around.
- Everybody together asks “How do you feel?”.
- Student replies: “I feel ___”.
Students get 1 point for this and 1 extra if they did acting.
